JOB SUMMARY
Operates a variety of construction and maintenance equipment and vehicles used in street construction, maintenance and repair activities. Performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks related to the maintenance of streets, tree trimming and removal, mowing and storm drainage systems.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling and unloading of equipment, materials, and supplies.

Operates construction and power equipment including, but not limited to, street zipper, street roller, maintainer, laydown machine, back-hoe, and dump truck.

Operates jackhammers, mowers, and other small equipment and tools to maintain street and sidewalks.

Performs routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment, and reports defects or needed repairs to supervisor and maintains cleanliness of equipment.

Assists in the installation, maintenance and removal of traffic control devices.

Performs all duties in accordance with established safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
7. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES
Controls traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas, as required or assigned.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Two (2) years of experience involving the use of medium and heavy equipment, two of which must have been related to street systems.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Working knowledge of heavy equipment operating principles, safety practices, and hazards associated with construction and maintenance work.

Skill in the safe operation tools, vehicles, and equipment used in street maintenance.

Ability to understand and follow oral or written instructions.

Ability to communicate effectively; verbally and in writing with supervisors, coworkers, and the public.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Ability to perform heavy manual labor under varying weather conditions.

Ability to read and work from construction specifications and blueprints.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license with a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) endorsement, or the ability to obtain one within one (1) year of the hire date.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Motorized vehicles and equipment, including back-hoe, dump truck, pickup truck, utility truck, street sweeper, street roller, manlift, tamper, plate compactor, saws, pumps, propane kettle, compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detection devices, mobile radio, phone, ditch witch, street zipper, maintainer and laydown machine.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
The employee must frequently push, pull, lift and/or carry up to 25 pounds and occasionally push, pull, lift and/or carry up to 100 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside-weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
