
Unclaimed Cash – Utility Deposit Refunds
At the time a utility account is closed the deposit is applied to the final invoice. If there is any balance remaining of the deposit and refund check will be generated. We will make every effort to contact individuals regarding deposit refunds. If we are unable to reach you, the money is considered unclaimed property and held by the city for up to one year if the amount is more than $100.
According to Sec. 76.201 of the Texas Property Code, the City of Commerce is publishing the names of those persons or entities for whom the city is holding unclaimed property.
Steps to Claim your Property:
- Review Unclaimed Cash - Deposit Refunds report
- Complete the Unclaimed Property Claim Form
- Submit the Unclaimed Property Form and proper documentation supporting your ownership
- Allow 2-3 weeks for processing
Please note that abandoned property is transferred to the State Comptroller’s Office by July 1 of each year as follows:
- For unclaimed refunds with Utility Billing, if the amounts are over $100 and are more than one year old.
